Cheeseadelphia Challenger Spotlight: The Future of Terran
by Olivia Schaller--Updated
For many players a nickname is little more than a word they latched onto at the start of their StarCraft career. For Joseph Anthony his name, Future, seems like something more, a promise to himself. Indeed his Twitter handle @FutureOfTerran hints at a destiny this young players hopes to lay claim to.
Future Contemplates an Upcoming Series
I was able to speak with Future, and he took the time to tell me a bit more about himself as a player
“I’m an aggressive macro oriented player, I look for holes in my opponent’s defense to gain that edge. I also like to mix it up with some cheesy builds into solid macro next game to catch my opponent off guard.”
This playstyle has made him a feared opponent on ladder. His mix of innovative all ins along with solid macro play make him an unpredictable and dangerous foe.
Future began making a name for himself earlier this year when he began taking maps off, and defeating Korean players like: GumiHo, aLive, and TRUE in online tournaments, despite being only 15 years old. The rumblings of Future as a gifted youngster proved to bear fruit with a strong showing at Cheeseadelphia 5 where he was able to secure a placement in the top 16. Although stopped in the first round of the playoffs by the veteran Conan “Suppy” Liu, Future managed to bloody the nose of his more experienced foe, taking the first map with a brutally sharp hellbat all in. More recently Future has shown impressive form, defeating top foriegn players such as: Scarlett, PuCK, and Cham in online competitions.
Cheeseadelphia is an exceptionally important event for Future, as under the current WCS age restrictions he will not be allowed to compete in the entirety of the 2018 WCS circuit, despite the fact that he turns sixteen part way through the year. Perhaps an exceptionally strong performance at Cheeseadelphia 6 would be enough to #FreeFuture and send him to the $10,000 finals in Washington DC!
