10 Christmas gifts for the esports fan in your life
by Jessica Scharnagle
The holidays are coming up, and for those who have loved ones who are fans of esports, it can be difficult navigating all of the different things on their wishlist for Christmas.
Whether you have a friend who is always talking about esports, or a child who aspires to be a professional player, there are plenty of gifts out there to make any esports fan happy. Here is a list of 10 gifts that will delight esports fans.
1. A gaming monitor
Technology is always changing, and keeping up with the latest tech in monitors isn’t easy. If money isn’t much of a barrier, the LG 27GN950-B was listed as the best gaming monitor by pcgamer.com. If you’re on a budget, they have a recommendation for that too.
2. Merch from their favorite team
The merch can be expensive, and many esports fans pine after it, but decline to purchase it for themselves, which makes it a great gift. Many teams have their own merch stores, and some stuff can even be found on Etsy if you know where to look. They can be hard to find, but sometimes there is some really cool stuff for esports teams on Etsy, like these Overwatch League Pachimari stickers.
Don’t forget to check out some Nerd Street merch too!
3. Personalized gamertag gifts
There are plenty of gifts that can be personalized, such as a T-shirt, blanket or coffee mug. Put your loved one’s gamertag on anything and it’s sure to be a hit. These custom gamertag lights on Etsy are pretty cool and will be a great gift for anyone who loves an ambiance while gaming.
4. Custom Xbox controller
If your loved one plays on Xbox, there’s a really neat service that Microsoft has called the Xbox Design Lab. You can customize just about every button on the controller, and if you know your giftee’s favorite esports team, you can make the colors match their team. The one below was inspired by Sentinels.
5. Game-specific merch
If your giftee plays a certain game, there is plenty of merch out there for those games, and Etsy is a really great place to find unique merch. For example, this League of Legends hoodie has a funny design that would make just about any LoL fan giggle.
6. Tickets to a live event
Although many live events are on hold due to the pandemic, there are some happening around the world, and tickets to an event they’d like to attend is a great gift for any esports fan. Now that there are more live events popping up, there may be some live events that are happening locally that your giftee can attend.
7. Gamer loungewear
There are plenty of brands to choose from when selecting some loungewear for gamers. Ateyo is one of the most known in the esports world, since they’ve designed their loungewear specifically for gamers who spend a lot of time sitting in front of a PC or console.
8. Cell phone charging stand
This might seem like one that isn’t related to esports, but being able to see your phone at a glance while gaming is super helpful. Stands like this one from Anker are always a great choice, but there are others that have the traditional cord setup for those who don’t have Qi compatible phones.
9. Snacks
Never underestimate the power of food and drinks for a gamer. Especially snacks that aren’t too messy and can be grabbed quickly. It’s a stereotype that gamers only love Doritos and Mountain Dew, but most gamers are happy with healthier options such as some pretzels or fruit. We’re also pretty keen on Mike and Ike if you go the candy route.
10. A water bottle (with optional stickers)
Going along with a healthy gaming lifestyle, many gamers have water bottles on their desks at all times. A 64oz water bottle is so big that you can’t help but put stickers on it. There are plenty of stickers out there for esports games, so a big water bottle and some stickers to put on it for flair is a great gift idea for gamers who are parked at a computer for long periods of time.
