The best recent events and tournaments at Localhost

by Brian Bencomo

Nerd Street’s owned and operated gaming venues, known as Localhosts, are not only places where you can stop by to play your favorite games on high-quality gaming PCs and consoles. Localhosts also are the site of LAN tournaments, gaming community gatherings, private events, youth camps, brand activations and more. Every month, we’ll be spotlighting some of the best events that have happened at Localhost in Philadelphia, Rowan and Denver. Here’s a look back at some of the fun things that happened at Localhost over the past month.

Frag Jersey returned to Localhost Rowan for the fifth time. Eleven teams, including collegiate teams from Drexel and the University of Rhode Island, came out to compete for a share of the $1,000 prize pot. Wanted Goons took home the lion’s share of the winnings and got a ticket to the $10K Frag tournament happening at Localhost Philadelphia at the end of this month!

Besides Frag, Localhost Rowan’s weeklies and biweeklies were back after the holiday break. The FGC biweekly Limit Break saw a high of 14 competitors at one meetup last month, while the Smash weekly Smash the Glass hit double digit attendance two weeks in a row.

Localhost Philly kicked off 2025 with lots of Smash and Rivals of Aether 2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate weekly meetup That Local Jawn (TLJ) got together for the first time this year on Jan. 14 and finished off with a top three of Juice, DTP and Slasher. The following night, Brotherly Love Esports co-hosted Localhost’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate biweekly Fly Melee Fly, which brought in 21 players to 401 N. Broad.

The first Go For Broke of 2025, Localhost Philly’s FGC monthly, also took place in mid-January. The event brought in a big turnout with over 132 attendees coming out to play Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes and Mortal Kombat 1 as well as Mario Kart in the Broad Street Blur portion of the event.

The same day as Go For Broke, community organizer Ben Kelkis put together a Mario Superstars Baseball Community LAN. Kelkis had previously organized this LAN, and this time it was even more hype and made for a very exciting day overall at Localhost.

With schools back in session after the winter break, Philadelphia Electrical and Technology Charter School (PETCHS) was back in the building for their afterschool esports club on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Later in January, the Martin Luther School took advantage of their “Kick the Day” program to visit Localhost for a tour and hold their Winter Brawlhalla Finals.
