Lakewood League brings out eclectic mix of teams to Localhost Denver
by Brian Bencomo
Did you know that the biggest open LAN League of Legends tournament in the United States happens every other month at Localhost Denver?
For the eighth time since 2023, Lakewood League brought together 16 teams of all ages and ranks for another spirited competition in February. While other League of Legends tournaments restrict entry by rank or limit participants to only high schools or only colleges, Lakewood League welcomes everyone. This creates an inclusive atmosphere where high school students, college players and casual competitors can get together to compete against each other.
The unique nature of Lakewood League led to a lot of fun team combinations, including one with a high school teacher playing with three current students and a student that graduated. There was also a family team composed of a few brothers, a cousin and a dad all playing together! There were college teams from across Colorado competing, including Colorado College, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS). Other university teams in attendance traveled from out of state, including the University of Nebraska, University of Wyoming and Utah State.

WX Pepega Dogs ended up winning the tournament, going 3-0 in the Swiss stage of the tournament and going 3-0 in the playoffs, which they capped with a victory over Colorado College. Utah State finished third with a victory over UCCS in the third-place match.
Lakewood League continues to grow and has proven to be one of the most popular LAN tournaments held at Localhost Denver. Even Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a League player himself, has attended previous iterations. The next edition of Lakewood League is scheduled to take place in April.
