Will host three weekends of Overwatch League events in Philadelphia and Atlantic City, NJ

JANUARY 28, 2020 – The Overwatch League is coming back to Philadelphia. In partnership with the Philadelphia Fusion, Nerd Street Gamers, the national esports infrastructure company dedicated to powering competitive opportunities for gamers, will produce the 2020 homestand(s) for the hometown professional Overwatch League team.

For three weekends during the 2020 Overwatch League season, the Philadelphia Fusion and Nerd Street Gamers will play host to some of the top talent in professional gaming at The Met Philadelphia and the iconic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The matches mark the first times Philadelphia’s official Overwatch League team will compete locally, offering fans an exclusive opportunity to experience the world of esports and cheer on their hometown team.

“We witnessed Philadelphia’s passion for esports when we hosted a sold out crowd for the Overwatch League Grand Finals at Wells Fargo Center last September,” said Julie Truong, Director of Business Operations, Philadelphia Fusion. “After spending the past two years in Burbank, California, the team is excited to finally play on home turf in front of our incredible fans. We can’t wait to provide an unforgettable experience that gives fans a taste of what’s to come once Fusion Arena opens its doors in 2021.”

Nerd Street Gamers will handle all aspects of producing the event, including the in-venue experience, creative, infrastructure, security and staffing. The company, which has produced, powered, and managed esports tournaments at DreamHack Atlanta, Harrisburg University, and many more venues, including the company’s own set of Localhost esports venues, will bring crucial expertise in running these event weekends, ensuring an exciting and social atmosphere for both fans and competitors.

“Nerd Street Gamers is committed to supporting all levels of esports, from amateur tournaments to the highest tier of professional events like the Philadelphia Fusion homestands,” said John Fazio, Founder and CEO of Nerd Street Gamers. “By powering professional esports at a local level, our goal is to inspire and motivate fans to take advantage of the incredible opportunities that esports can provide.”

The Philadelphia Fusion Homestand is slated to be one of the best 2020 esports events happening in the Philadelphia region. The schedule is as follows:

  • Battle of Brotherly Love: The Met, 858 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, Feb. 15-16
  • Hometown Heroes Philadelphia: The Met, 858 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, May 23-24
  • Boardwalk Brawl: Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, June 6-7
