Participating leagues in PlayVS Spring Championships and Playoffs announced: High Schools Across Arkansas, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Texas

LOS ANGELES, CA – May 14, 2020 – PlayVS , the software startup that built the leading platform for competitive experiences on top of esports, today announces the commencement of the platform’s ‘Spring 2020 Playoffs’ which will offer select high school teams across five states the opportunity to compete for the winning title. The five states participating in the PlayVS Championship include Arkansas (AAA), Hawaii (HHSAA), Massachusetts (MSAA), Rhode Island (RIIL) and Texas with club teams competing in three regional leagues as well.

Starting May 14, the selected high school teams across Arkansas, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Texas will compete in the Spring Playoffs. For spectators, each championship match will be broadcasted live on PlayVS’ Twitch channel.

Nerd Street Gamers, the national esports infrastructure company dedicated to powering competitive opportunities for gamers, will be producing and streaming all broadcasts for the championship matches. Named as the 2020 Championship Broadcast Partner for PlayVS, Nerd Street Gamers is tasked with producing the matches from remote locations – bringing together talent, game feeds from around the country, replays, and more into the live stream.

Teams will be allowed their standard number of players, with five starters and three substitutes for LoL and three starters and two substitutes for Rocket League. These games require critical thinking and teamwork since each player must know their role and support one another to succeed competitively. PlayVS will crown the championship winners live on Twitch and also announce via Twitter.

“While students are taking part in remote learning, they lose the extracurriculars they love,” said Clint Kennedy, Director of Acquisition and Education at PlayVS. “We’re really fortunate to be able to host the PlayVS Spring Playoffs and Championships and give kids something to look forward to after school as the year comes to an end. Nerd Street Gamers has been an instrumental partner in making this happen, and we’re excited that PlayVS’ technology can connect students when they’re not physically together.”

“Providing the opportunity for students to compete at a high level as well as watch and root for one another throughout the tournaments is incredibly rewarding during these uncertain times,” said John Fazio, founder and CEO of Nerd Street Gamers. “We are proud to partner with PlayVS for their Spring Playoffs and Championships and continue providing access and opportunities for more passionate gamers to compete in esports.”
