by Nerd Street Gamers
PHILADELPHIA, October 6, 2021 – Nerd Street, the national esports infrastructure company, officially announced today its Winter Champs 2022 series. The seasonal tournament provides aspiring players with a stage to showcase their skills, a competitive ecosystem to improve their game, and a community that shares a love for games. Players will compete in season-long qualifiers online or in-person beginning on October 12, 2021 for the chance to ultimately play in the Grand Finals, set to take place in March 2022. The Winter Champs prize pot: $500,000.
“In just the few years since we organized our collective tournaments under the Nerd Street Championships brand we’ve already seen dozens of our competitors go on to professional careers. Many of whom played in their very first competitive event with Nerd Street,” said John Fazio, CEO and Founder of Nerd Street. “Building the pipelines that provide clear and accessible pathways to serious competition will not only create professional gamers, but also send kids to college, open doors on career opportunities, and forge life long friendships. That’s what it’s all about.”
The Winter Champs return for its second year as part of Nerd Street Championships, a series of competitions across multiple game titles split into two seasonal circuits - Summer and Winter - culminating in a championship event each season. The series focuses on providing an open pathway to competition at the highest possible levels for all gamers. The Winter Championships 2021 aims to be the largest amateur tournament series in North America, and will include: VALORANT, Apex, Rocket League, Rainbow 6, League of Legends, CSGO, Guilty Gear, and Smash.
“Creating connected opportunities which originate online and on LAN that welcome new players throughout the series is a core tenet of Nerd Street Championships,” said Steve Csikos, VP, Esports Operations and Strategy of Nerd Street. “Not only will players be able to participate in-person, but if they can't make it out to qualifying LAN, there is an online path to the championship for all competitors. A new season brings new stories and we at Nerd Street are fired up to see who will rise to champions.”
