KRÜ Esports stun Sentinels, eliminating them from Champions
by Brian Bencomo
In a stunning turn of events, two-time Masters winners Sentinels were eliminated from VALORANT Champions during group play by KRÜ Esports.
The Latin American team whose founder and CEO is Argentine soccer star Sergio Agüero had previously not beaten any team from North America or Europe, the two dominant regions in pro VALORANT. KRÜ had previously only beaten Brazilian and Japanese teams in international competition.
The Latin American team won a close Map 3 13-11 to take the series 2-1 and move on to the quarterfinals.
The match started off with a relatively easy 13-7 Map 1 win for Sentinels in what looked like it might be a quick 2-0. However, KRÜ took Map 2 by the narrowest margin of 13-11.
They were up 10-8 on Map 3 before Sentinels came back to even the score. They were even again at 11-11 before KRÜ took the final two rounds to wrap up the upset.
Tyson “TenZ” Ngo finished with a team-worst 119 ACS and 9/20 K/D in Map 3, which was on Split.
The 2021 VCT season is over for Sentinels. KRÜ will face Fnatic in the quarterfinals of Champions.
