by Brian Bencomo
If you’re looking for fun new games to play in April, you’ve come to the right place! From recently released games coming to next-gen consoles to classic games coming to new ports and everything in between, here are the top games coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC this month.
Outriders
April 1 -- PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Stadia
April kicks off with a bang with the release of Outriders, a third-person shooter with RPG elements. The game takes place in space on the planet Enoch and can be played solo or with others. Players have the ability to customize their characters at the start, choosing from one of four classes -- Trickster, Pyropancer, Devastator or Technomancer. Many have already gotten a preview of the game through a demo released in February, and it was recently announced that the game would be available on Xbox Game Pass beginning the day it releases. The developers promise the game will be complete upon release, and cross-play between players on different platforms will be supported.
Star Wars: Republic Commando
April 6 -- PS4, Switch
Sixteen years after it was first released for PC and Xbox, Star Wars: Republic Commando is coming to PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch this month. Set during the Clone Wars time period, Republic Commando is a tactical first-person shooter that can be played as a single player or multiplayer. The game has an overwhelming positive rating on Steam.
Final Fantasy XIV open beta
April 13 -- PS5
An open beta for Final Fantasy XIV is coming to PS5 this month. It’ll be available as a free upgrade for people who have a PS4 version of the game. The PS4 version is already playable on PS5, but this version will be optimized for the next-generation console.

MLB The Show 21
April 20 -- PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One
It’s spring, which means the start of a new baseball season and the release of the latest edition of MLB The Show. Usually, MLB The Show releases in March, but this year fans will have to wait until April. The wait should be worth it though, because for the first time ever, the game is coming to Xbox. Not only that, the game will support cross-play, so regardless of whether you’re playing on a PlayStation or an Xbox you can play against people playing on a different console. Another feature to get hyped about is Stadium Creator, which will allow you to create your own ballpark. However, you will need to have a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S to do so.

New Pokémon Snap
April 30 -- Switch
Pokémon Snap, the classic Nintendo 64 game first released in 1999 is getting a highly anticipated makeover with the release of New Pokémon Snap at the end of the month. The premise is simple: snap photos of Pokémon! You travel around in a hovercraft called a NEO-ONE and take photos of Pokémon in their natural habitats to aid Professor Mirror in his research. New Pokémon Snap has truly entered the social media age with the ability to edit and customize your photos, including adding stickers and filters. Snap will be the latest in an exciting year for Pokémon as the franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Returnal
April 30 -- PS5
Returnal is a third-person shooter psychological horror game that was first revealed last summer and releases at the end of April. In the game, you’re a space pilot stranded on a planet and stuck in some sort of time loop. The game will only be available on PS5. The game looks like it might be quite challenging to play but incredibly rewarding when you’re able to successfully stay alive.
