EZ5, Noble qualify for Nerd Street’s VALORANT Summer Championship

by Mitch Reames

Nerd Street’s Summer Championships are officially underway as teams look to qualify in VALORANT, Apex Legends, League of Legends Rainbow Six: Siege and Rocket League.

When August rolls around, the qualified teams in each game will have a chance to take home some of Nerd Street’s biggest prizes of the year. Players and teams in North America can compete right now by entering Nerd Street’s weekly and monthly tournaments to start accumulating points.

As tournaments are ongoing, some teams are already qualifying by becoming one of the top two teams in monthly qualifiers. So far six teams have qualified for VALORANT’s Summer Champs by finishing top two in the three monthly tournaments held so far. The first two to qualify were Renegades and Susquehanna Soniqs. In May, Complexity and Rise joined them. For June, the two new qualifiers are EZ5 and Noble.

EZ5 qualify for Nerd Street’s Summer Championship

After beating multiple big names in the tournament, EZ5 became the first unsigned team to qualify for Summer Champs. Over the course of the tournament, EZ5 beat Team Basilisk, Evil Geniuses and Noble, an impressive run for an amateur team.

While they might be currently unsigned, they aren’t unknown. In this tournament, EZ5 featured a sub in Governor who is a popular content creator on YouTube. The Jett main led the team in ACS across most of their matches.

In this tournament, he competed alongside Gucc107, Dcop, Korsonix and Paincakes who all make up the core of EZ5. Governor subbed in for Kanpeki. Outside of the sub, Dcop is probably EZ5’s best known player after formerly competing for Equinox in 2020. Dcop also once played Apex Legends for TempoStorm and Overwatch for Evil Geniuses back before the Overwatch League was a thing.

According to Governor’s Twitter, he will likely be announcing a new permanent spot with an org soon as he tweeted out the customary Simpsons.gif on Monday.

The EZ5 roster is still looking to be picked up, so the future is uncertain but one thing they can absolutely mark on their calendars is competing in Nerd Street’s Summer Championship in August alongside all the best Tier 2 teams VALORANT has to offer.

Noble finally break through to qualify for Summer Champs

For viewers of Nerd Street’s tournaments, Noble have been a consistent name. The squad has competed in every Nerd Street Monthly since March and reached the semifinals twice before. This time they broke through the semis with a heated three-map finish against Insight in the semifinals.

This roster is a new one with Noble going for a full swap after signing the ex-Phoenix1 squad in February. Only Colin “Precision” O’Neill remains from that original roster.

The new roster consists of IGL Nate “payen” Lopez, a former professional Paladins player who played for SK Gaming, Brandon “bdog” Michael Sanders who used to play for Beastcoast, Timothy “frostyZK” Ly, a former Fortnite player and Aleko “LeviathanAG” Gabuniya, who, funny enough, used to play for EZ5.

Noble is a growing esports org based in Florida that has fielded teams in a variety of different esports including CS:GO, League of Legends, Dota 2 and more.

There’s only one more Nerd Street monthly before Summer Champs, but those only guarantee top seeds. Another 16 teams will make it on circuit points which will make every match count in Nerd Street’s upcoming weekly tournaments. A final eight teams also will be added via a Last Chance Qualifier, so for teams who want to compete, there are still plenty of chances to make it into the big event in August. For now, EZ5 and Noble will join the other four big names as the ones locked into Summer Champs.
