Nerd Street Gamers & Award-Winning Investigative Journalist Jacob Wolf Announce New Partnership Venture
by Nerd Street Gamers
PHILADELPHIA, September 8, 2021 – Nerd Street Gamers, the national esports infrastructure company, announced today its partnership with Jacob Wolf, the award-winning journalist, on a new investigative, serialized podcast, anticipated to be released in 2022. This will be the first project for Wolf’s newly-launched audio and video production company, Overcome, which is focused on independent gaming and esports storytelling content.
Wolf is currently the chief reporter and investigative lead at Dot Esports, one of the most read esports publications on the internet. This year, Wolf broke important stories around the U.S. Department of Justice's active antitrust investigation into Activision Blizzard's Overwatch League, as well as reported and wrote a longform feature on forger Joshua Mullins, who before his 18th birthday, attempted to con people in esports for $42 million. Prior to rejoining Dot Esports in January 2021, Wolf worked for ESPN, helping build its esports department from a three-person operation to one of the most respected publications in the esports industry. Wolf's responsibilities spanned across breaking news, writing features, and appearing on video talk shows and in produced features. Wolf's work appeared on ESPN.com, The Undefeated, SportsCenter and Outside the Lines.
"Supporting talent, innovation, and growth in the esports industry is at the core to what we do at Nerd Street," said John Fazio, CEO and Founder of Nerd Street Gamers. "Our partnership with Jacob and Overcome is our first tangible opportunity to demonstrate how we can support the talent that pushes our industry forward. Authentic journalism is an essential pillar of growth for esports and we're excited to back one of the industry's leading journalists. This is just the beginning."
With Wolf’s experience in investigative journalism and Nerd Street’s excellence in areas of sales, marketing and content distribution across esports, both bring complementary industry expertise to propel this initiative. Through the collaboration on the upcoming podcast and platform, esports creators and fans will have a new platform and content to engage with.
"Over the past seven years, I've covered esports as it's evolved from a scrappy penny-pinching niche to a playground for millionaires and billionaires," said Jacob Wolf, Founder and Executive Producer of Overcome. "The industry has grown significantly but it feels like journalism and storytelling are oftentimes an afterthought. With Overcome and this partnership with Nerd Street, I'm hoping to change that, telling well-researched and reported stories in a format that anyone—regardless of their knowledge of esports—can enjoy and understand."
Details related to topic and focus surrounding the podcast project are forthcoming. For more information and to stay up-to-date on the latest on the podcast partnership, follow @nerdstreet and nerdstreet.com.
