Collegiate tournaments at Localhost
Nerd Street’s new collegiate esports tournament series kicked off last month in Philly and Denver. In Philly, the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Series (MACS) featured competitions in VALORANT and Overwatch 2. Ten teams from eight schools turned out for Overwatch, while 12 teams from nine schools showed up for VALORANT. The George Mason University Patriots took home first place in VALORANT, while the Arcadia University Knights came out on top in the Overwatch bracket.
The Rocky Mountain Collegiate Series (RMCS) featured a VALORANT tournament in Denver with five teams from three schools coming to Localhost to play on LAN. The University of Colorado took home the crown after a nail-biting three-map finals victory over the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs.
In Glassboro, New Jersey, Rowan University esports held a 3v3 Overwatch LAN that included 10 teams competing at Localhost. It was a busy month for Rowan esports as the university’s own esports teams traveled to Philly to compete in both the MACS Overwatch and VALORANT tournaments too.
Halloween bash
There was a Halloween party at Localhost Rowan to cap off October. The highlight of the night was a costume contest. The winner was somebody dressed as Gandalf from Lord of the Rings who won a gaming chair. The costume contest was not the only way to win a prize that night. There was also a raffle in which attendees won things like headsets, keyboards, gift cards, a PC case and a Localhost swag bag. Attendees raced for extra raffle tickets in the spookiest Mario Kart maps like Twisted Mansion, Dry Dunes, and Bowser’s Castle.
Go For Broke
In mid-October, the FGC Monthly Go For Broke returned to Localhost Philly featuring brackets in Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear Strive and UNI 2. In addition to the fighting game brackets, this edition of Go For Broke included a Mario Kart tournament known as Broad Street Blur and for the first time ever a Mario Party tournament known as Broad Street Bash. Players from both Drexel and Kutztown Universities competed in these events with KU students finishing in the top three for both Mario Kart and Mario Party!
Friday Night Rivals
A new weekly tournament series kicked off in Denver last month. Every Friday at Localhost will feature a Rivals of Aether 2 tournament known as Friday Night Rivals. The weekly Friday Rivals tournament is meant to provide a welcoming environment for anyone just dipping their toe into Rivals 2 or for old players returning to the Aether. It will be streamed and casted each week.
