Cheeseadelphia is back!

Nerd Street’s famous StarCraft tournament series, Cheeseadelphia, returned to Localhost Philly for the first time in a couple years last month. Joseph "Future" Stanish (Terran) came out on top over Alex "Epic" Damian (Terran) in the 15 player StarCraft II tournament. This was the first of three LAN qualifiers for the Nerd Street Champs Winter Finals LAN in December. The top four players in each qualifier will earn a spot at the championship tournament.

College Overwatch LAN tournament

Temple University’s esports club partnered with Localhost to hold a collegiate Overwatch 2 tournament the last weekend of March. The Philadelphia school’s tournament brought in other colleges from the city and the state to compete including Carnegie Mellon, Saint Joseph, Harrisburg University and the University of Pittsburgh. Arcadia University beat Drexel in the final. Localhost Philly will again play host to some collegiate Overwatch (and Rocket League) later this month in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Series.

League of Legends in Denver

It was another packed house in Denver for the fifth edition of Soul’s League of Legends tournament. With both previous winning teams not in attendance, a new champion emerged. Brothers took the victory over Don’t Gank Bot at the tournament. Soul’s LoL tournament has become quite a popular regional event. The Governor of Colorado was in attendance for the previous iteration of this tournament.

ESF winners / Rare Air qualifiers

Rare Air, a new regional Smash Ultimate tournament, is coming up May 11-12 in Denver. The winners of Denver’s weekly Elite Smash Fridays (ESF) have been automatically qualifying, and so far, these have been the winners: Chronos, Shoe (twice), DSCF and Nicholas. Shoe’s repeat victory has created an extra spot at the last chance qualifier taking place May 10.

Other happenings at Localhost

Early last month, the Philadelphia Department of Commerce hosted the Youth Creative Economy kickoff, where young entrepreneurs showcased their business ideas and creative industry projects to department leaders and special guests including investors, firm representatives and executives from businesses around the city. The 10-year-old founder and CEO of Baby Pigeon Co. won $5,000 in seed funding for her startup.

Philly’s community programming continued to flourish. Localhost resumed its biweekly FGC programs with See Me Offline (Street Fight 6) and Iron Phist Philly's "The Phurnace" (Tekken 8). That Local Jawn (Smash) continued its march toward the 100th edition of TLJ. Meanwhile, Brotherly Love Esports' biweekly Smash Melee tournament -- Fly, Melee, Fly -- had its second edition at Localhost with over two dozen players.

The University of Pennsylvania was at Localhost last month. Masters students from Mjumbe Poe’s Geospatial Cloud Computing and Visualization class received an in-depth tour of the Netrality Data Center, including our own Localhost. The students explored not only the facility's significance in commerce and business as a multi-client data center, but the strategic importance and urban planning implications that go along with being in the heart of the city.

In conjunction with the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), administrators from 30+ college student unions toured Localhost in Denver. The schools were given a full tour and talk about what this type of facility would bring to their campus communities, and participants had the opportunity to ask questions and got first-hand experience playing on the PCs.
