The best recent events and tournaments at Localhost

by Brian Bencomo

Nerd Street’s owned and operated gaming venues, known as Localhosts, are not only places where you can stop by to play your favorite games on high-quality gaming PCs and consoles. Localhosts also are the site of LAN tournaments, gaming community gatherings, private events, youth camps, brand activations and more. Every month, we’ll be spotlighting some of the best events that have happened at Localhost in Philadelphia, Rowan and Denver. Here’s a look back at some of the fun things that happened at Localhost over the past month.

Siege Showdown

Localhost Denver was host to a big Rainbow Six Siege tournament last month called Siege Showdown. Sixteen teams came out to compete for a $10,000 prize pool in a tournament sponsored by Ubisoft. Outlast Gaming came out on top in the best-of-five final, beating 774, a team of Canadians who traveled to Denver for the tournament. 774 might have traveled the farthest to attend Siege Showdown, but there were numerous other teams who traveled to the tournament from outside of Colorado. Out-of-state college teams were particularly well represented with Texas A&M, Colorado State, Arkansas State, and the University of Utah (which sent two teams) all competing in Siege Showdown.

Beyblade Goes For Broke

Beyblade burst onto the scene at Localhost Philly in March with the venue’s first Beyblade community meetup early in the month segueing into the first community tournament at Go For Broke, Localhost Philly’s big monthly fighting game community tournament. The event was a collaboration between Philly Bladers and the South Jersey BeyBlade Association (SJBBA) featuring over 40 competitors from around the Northeast alongside Philly’s staple FGC Monthly. Overall, more than 160 competitors came out to compete in not only Beyblade but also Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Under-Night 2 Sys:Celes, Guilty Gear Strive and Virtua Fighter 5 REVO.

Mario Madness

One of the most unique events in March was Mario Madness -- a fun spin on the March Madness college basketball tournament, with basketballl and Mario games. Mario Madness was Localhost Philly’s activation at City Tap House in Logan Square where our own Ishmael and Kyle engaged customers in some NBA 2K25 and Mario Kart 8 challenges. Prizes included free four-hour passes to Localhost Philly, a party package for up to 10 guests, gift cards and more! There was plenty of hoops with NBA 2K free play and the second round of the NCAA Division I tournament on City Taps screens.

Engaging local students

Late in March, Localhost Philly hosted Liguori Academy for International Data Center Day, an annual event with Netrality where students are able to tour the data center and see what goes into the daily operations and technical upkeep of an infrastructure cornerstone. The students finished off their tour of the data center with some free play at Localhost.

A couple days later, our own operations lead, Jumaani Haskins, visited the 7th and 8th grade students at Alliance for Progress Charter School for their career day. Jumaani discussed the daily operations involved in running Localhost Philly, the different career paths available in esports and events, and, of course, mentioned some of the professional orgs and teams that the venue has hosted. Following some Q&A from the students, there was a short trivia challenge where students won some free four-hour passes to Localhost.
